
Avondale was a company town built around the Avondale Mills east of Birmingham in Jefferson County. The town was incorporated on March 18, 1887. The city was annexed into Birmingham and is now divided into three separate neighborhoods, North Avondale, East Avondale and South Avondale.

Five Points was one of Birmingham's first streetcar suburbs. Settled in the 1880's, in 1887 it was incorporated as the Town of Highland, a separate community. In 1893 Highland became part of the City of Birmingham.

Homewood is a city in southeastern Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. It is a suburb of Birmingham, located on the other side of Red Mountain due south of the city center. It has one of the highest population densities in Alabama.

Hoover is a city in Jefferson and Shelby Counties in north central Alabama, in the United States. The largest suburb of Birmingham, the population of the city was 81,619 in the 2010 census.

Mountain Brook is a city in southeastern Jefferson County, Alabama, and a suburb of Birmingham. According to the 2010 census, the population of the city is 20,413.

Vestavia Hills is a city in Jefferson and Shelby Counties in the State of Alabama. It is a suburb of the city of Birmingham. As of the 2010 census, its population is 34,033.
